Electricity adopts Chinese smart meters

The Electricity and Energy Committee in the House of Representatives revealed the Ministry of Electricity's intention to resort to Chinese technology to install smart meters. Committee member Hussein al-Battat told "Al-Sabah": "The electric energy that reaches the citizen today is like free or without a bill, and electricity cannot be controlled and provided to everyone unless smart meters are available, taking into account the poverty rate in Iraq and the needy families." He called for the necessity of having a "clear bill based on the real expenditure of each family." Al-Battat considered Iraq "the only country in the world to provide free electricity to citizens.
