Parliamentary support for the government effort to localize the drug

The Parliamentary Health and Environment Committee stated that it supports the government's efforts regarding the drug localization plan in Iraq by supporting its production factories and enabling them to create quality and compete with imported production.
A member of the committee, Karim Hussein Al-Saray, said in an interview with "Al-Sabah": "The localization of the drug is represented by the support of the national producing companies, and there are national companies accredited by the Ministry of Health, but their production rate does not exceed 7% of the actual need of health institutions." And he indicated that "the government and the Ministry of Health are directed to support national companies, and with regard to the economic aspect, the trend is to reduce the import of medicine, in addition to the fact that the Iraqi citizen encourages the national product, especially in the issue of treatment," and stressed that "acceptance of companies contracting to work with the ministry or with which the ministry is currently dealing It is subject to legal conditions, and cooperation takes place with these companies in the production of medicine and support in general. As for the foreign supplying companies, there is a specific context approved by the Ministry of Health, and most of them are reliable and approved companies.
Al-Saray explained that "the Ministry of Health dealt with the (Pfizer) company in supplying vaccines to Iraq, as well as with Japanese, Asian and Arab companies in accordance with legal controls," noting that "proper support for the local pharmaceutical industry will positively affect the quality of the local industry according to certain controls drawn by the ministry from For the quality of the national pharmaceutical industry, it will be an alternative to the importer, but it needs time and real support from the government.
