Governor of Baghdad: Prices are determined by operating hours

In light of a strike carried out by some generator owners to object to the ampere price restriction, the Baghdad governorate explained that the monthly tariff is determined according to the increase in the national electricity operating hours, which has improved compared to last year.
Citizens were surprised the day before yesterday by stopping the operation of the generators, amid objections from their owners to restricting the ampere prices that are imposed on citizens monthly and to adhere to the instructions of the Baghdad governorate, despite the stability of the national electricity supply and supplying them with (kerosene) rations.
Citizens expressed, in interviews with Al-Sabah, their complaints about these objections, as they pay monthly amounts that are often not commensurate with the operating hours of the generators, as a result of the remarkable stability in the provision of national electricity, wondering at the same time about the feasibility of supplying (kerosene) in light of Efforts to raise the monthly ampere price by generator owners.
The citizens called on the government to find solutions to get rid of the generators, as they have become a monthly burden added to their shoulders in light of the difficult living situation and the increase in the requirements of daily life.
In turn, the governor of Baghdad, Muhammad Jaber Al-Atta, told Al-Sabah: The field campaign implemented by the governorate to monitor generator contractors who violate the official pricing will continue throughout the month, and not only during the days of collection because there are many contractors who collect amounts during the second ten days of the month. Because they expect that the campaign has ended, in addition to the presence of contractors who collect additional sums before the end of each month.
He explained that the governorate allocated a hotline (5635) to report citizen complaints about violators, pointing out that this line is linked to a crisis cell that works 24 hours a day to receive complaints and then transfer them to administrative units, especially since the governorate instructed all these units and district offices to give them priority in dealing with them. The governor pointed out that the price of the ampere is determined monthly according to the demand and the processing hours of the generators, taking into account the increase in the operation of the national electricity, which is witnessing stability compared to previous years.
And he added that the governorate called on the Ministry of Electricity to increase energy supply due to the expansion that led to an increase in commercial and economic activities, as demand was less during the past years and more dependence on generators, stressing that the ministry confirmed that it made extensive efforts to improve energy during the summer and reduce dependence on generators.
Al-Atta noted that there are more than 14,000 private and governmental generators operating in Baghdad, where most of their contractors receive fixed fuel quotas from the Ministry of Oil.
The governorate, in cooperation with the security services, recently launched a campaign to monitor ampere prices and take legal measures against violators of generator owners.
