Shafaq News/ The director of Dohuk Dam announced, on Thursday, that the work of the Sabbah Dam construction project in the Amadiya district, north of the governorate, has reached 46 percent.
Farhad Muhammad, director of Dohuk Dam, explained to Shafaq News agency, that the Sabbah Dam will be of great benefit to the people of the region in terms of agriculture and tourism, indicating that the water storage capacity in the dam is 6 million cubic meters, while the total budget of the project is about 7 billion Iraqi dinars. It was funded by the Kurdistan Regional Government.
Muhammad stated that the Kurdistan government decided to maintain and restore Bidhi Dam, located in Kani Masi district, north of Dohuk.
He pointed out that the work project on this dam stopped nine years ago due to the security situation and the armed conflict between the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the Turkish army, and thanks to the government’s efforts, the dam project was rethought and developed, as the dam can now absorb and store about one million and 800 thousand cubic meters of water. .
These new development steps reflect the government's commitment to improving the infrastructure of the region and providing reliable sources of water, which will contribute to supporting the agricultural sector and tourism growth, and will bring about a tangible improvement in the lives of local citizens, according to the director of the Duhok Dam.
It is expected that the "Saba and Bidhi" dams will be strategic additions to the region, which will contribute to improving the infrastructure of the region and promote stability and sustainable development.
