Strategies to develop the religious tourism sector

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities has begun preparing strategies to develop the religious tourism sector, while it is about to rebuild a number of religious shrines in Nineveh Governorate.
The Minister of Culture, Tourism and Antiquities, Dr. Ahmed Fakak Al-Badrani, told Al-Sabah that the strategies depend on several aspects, including investment, development and rehabilitation of the infrastructure for tourism facilities and religious shrines.
He added that the strategies are important for the development of the tourism sectors, and they consist of two aspects, the first is paying attention to the holy cities, and the other aspect falls within the jurisdiction of the Tourism Authority, such as pilgrimage to the ruins of Ur and visiting the shrines of the prophets in a number of governorates, including Nineveh, which includes the shrines of the prophets Yunus, Daniel, Zarzis and Sheet (peace be upon them). And others that were destroyed by terrorist gangs, but they are currently being rehabilitated and developed in cooperation with civil society organizations and a number of donors and philanthropists, and we are about to complete their reconstruction, in addition to the rehabilitation of other sites in Baghdad, including Al-Qishla, Al-Rasheed Street, and the ancient Islamic monuments represented by the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the ziggurat of Akarkov and others

Al-Badrani denied the existence of any defect in the exploitation of tourism projects, but the conditions that the country passed through and the large accumulations of more than four decades ago were exceptional due to wars, economic blockade and terrorism, which previously made the country an environment that repels tourism.
