German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius confirmed, on Thursday, that the extension of the mission of his country’s forces in Iraq is due to the fact that the situation in Iraq “is not stable at all.”
Pistorius said: “We have extended this mission now, because in recent events, and in... Attempts to seize the Swedish embassy, it was clear that the situation was not stable at all.”
He added, “Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani had indicated the country’s need for German military support to achieve security in the country.”
On September 13, the German government announced Extending the German army's mission in Iraq for another year "at the request of the Iraqi government", in order to "support peace and stability."
