Mawazine News - Baghdad
The head of the Taqaddum Party and former Speaker of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Muhammad al-Halbousi, confirmed on Thursday that he will comply before the judiciary and will not leave Iraq anywhere.
Al-Halbousi said, in a press conference held by Al-Halbousi this evening, during which he spoke about his and his party’s position on the charges against him, after which the Federal Supreme Court decided to issue a decision to remove him from the position of Speaker of Parliament, “I appeared before the judiciary regarding the cases filed against me, and they were investigated for a period of time.” hours, and I pledged to the Iraqi judiciary that I would be present to stand before it regarding any lawsuit.”
He stressed that “he will not leave Iraq, and he will always be present to appear before the judiciary regarding any lawsuit,” indicating that “in the past, when some people were exposed to any legal issue, they would leave Iraq and start... Speaking about him in various conversations, but we will always respect the law.”
As for those complaining against him, Al-Halbousi indicated that “among them is Jamal Al-Karbouli, who has been convicted of corruption cases, and against whom several cases are still open, in addition to Haider Al-Mulla, who has previously been excluded from the elections three times.” Due to poor good conduct and behavior, in addition to the former governor of Anbar, Suhaib Al-Rawi, and Faris Taha Al-Faris, who was nominated twice and did not succeed due to lack of popular acceptance, and who is also facing and companies belonging to him facing lawsuits related to the electricity and transportation sectors.” He added, “Taha Abdul-Ghani is a member of the Anbar Governorate Council
in 2013. He is known for violating the law and has many problems. He is also among the complainants, along with Bassem Khashan, a dual citizen who holds American and Iraqi citizenship.
Hence, I direct my question to Khashan. Al-Halbousi said, adding: “What is his position on Washington’s support for Israel against Palestine? Doesn’t the United States support, with all its institutions and everything, the Zionist entity? Did God go and give up their citizenship that he swore to Yemen when it gets it?” ".
He added, "From a legal standpoint, we are a political party that has constants and is based on Arab principles and respects the Iraqi constitution. Our position on Israel is firm. We even refuse to call it a state, and this was even publicly stated in the sessions of the Arab Parliament," noting that "in Iraq there are two currents: nationalist and Islamic, and both of them are There is no peace between them with Israel, and these are the constants of the Iraqi people and a firm principle that we have publicly adopted.”
Al-Halbousi went on to say regarding his accusation of contracting with an American company whose advisors include former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, that “the company is registered in America and is 100% American, its owners are Americans, and there is no representation from any other nationalities, and this is what we will announce through the deal contract.” He stressed: “We will provide you with the documents of the employees working in the company, which has confirmed to us that there are no workers of non-American nationalities among its employees.”
The head of the Taqadum Party explained, “The nature of the contract with the company stipulates communication with the media between the two parties, publishing the party’s activities within the United States, marketing it in the media, and communicating with advanced democratic expertise,” indicating that “Taqadum Party needs development, and we have published all our activities in this regard.” “Including condemnations of Israel, all of which were consistent with the Iraqi constitution.”
He pointed out that "the Parties Law did not indicate any prohibition from contracting or dealing with any marketing companies. Rather, there is a legal text in the Parties Law that allows parties to deal with the media," noting that "286 Iraqi parties are contracted with the same company or similar companies within the United States of America." "Including the intelligence service and advisors to the Prime Minister in previous governments."
While the complainants challenged “to file a complaint against other parties that contracted with the American company,” he considered that what happened was “partisan and political targeting, and this time was chosen because of the elections to stop the progress of him and his party.”
He stated, “He came forward explicitly in the elections in 2021, and preceded others with the honor of legislating the law criminalizing normalization with Israel alongside the other representatives, and one of the complainants did not vote on some paragraphs of the law, and the parties that complained against us did not have the honor in previous sessions to take action.” A position against Israel.
Regarding the issue of one of the representatives signing a resignation that later led to a ruling against him terminating his membership in the House of Representatives and ending his presidency of the Council, Al-Halbousi confirmed that “he will submit it to the Federal Court against figures who forced ministers to resign,” stressing that “he will bear full responsibility for the content of the contract with the American company if "It contained support for the Zionist entity."
