[size=45]Yesterday, Wednesday, the Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, set the beginning of next March as the date for the national card to become the only official document approved in Iraq.[/size]
[size=45]This came in a speech he delivered while chairing the annual civil status briefing conference.[/size]
[size=45]The conference touched on the most important achievements achieved during the year 2023 and the services provided, which amounted to (43,774,627) services to citizens and guests of Iraq, which varied between issuing a national card, a passport, a housing card, residence, and other services.[/size]
[size=45]In the speech, the Minister stressed that there is a great effort being made during the year 2023, especially in the second half of the year (...) and we have no problems in most of the citizenship departments, adding: We aspire for the best during the coming year through the complete transformation of the electronic passport and the electronic visa. .[/size]
[size=45]He added that the Ministry has set 3/1/2024 as the date for approving the national card, the only official document, directing the concerned departments to prepare for the large numbers that will come to obtain the card, as well as preparing a plan to rebuild and rehabilitate citizenship buildings in the governorates according to a unified model.[/size]
[size=45]It is noteworthy that the Iraqi government had launched the national card project in 2015 to be an alternative to the old documents that were approved by the previous regime, which were: civil status identity, citizenship certificate, housing card, and ration card.[/size]
[size=45]The project aims to prepare a central database for all Iraqis, and issue unified national cards for them to be used in promoting transactions in official institutions and state departments.[/size]
[size=45]The project witnessed delays at times, represented by stopping the printing and issuing of the card due to technical problems and the lack of provision of raw materials due to the delay in paying the financial dues to the company contracting with the Iraqi Ministry of Interior. However, these problems have recently been overcome, and work is proceeding smoothly in the civil status departments, according to their officials.[/size]
