    Al-Sumaria News - Local News:

Today, Monday, the Iraqi Parliament is preparing to vote on the draft “Legal Aid” law, which will include opening centers to provide legal consultations as well as representation in cases for free, amid questions about the extent of the impact of these centers on the work of lawyers and law firms.

A member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Omid Muhammad, told Al-Sumaria News, “The law will include the opening of legal centers at the people’s level in all governorates, districts, and districts,” indicating that “the work of these centers is not only providing legal advice, but rather entrusting cases and providing lawyers to plead for citizens free of charge until a resolution is resolved.” The issue, and this will include many categories of citizens.”

Regarding whether these centers will “threaten the work and livelihood” of lawyers and the Bar Association’s opinion regarding them, Muhammad said, “There is a representative of the Bar Association within the formed body, and the opening and operation of these legal centers will of course be in consultation with the Bar Association,” denying that they are “a means to cut off the livelihood of lawyers.” He considered that "it will represent a gateway to creating job opportunities for many lawyers who do not have job opportunities. These centers will be funded by the state and will depend on many lawyers and law graduates."
