A number of members of the Iraqi House of Representatives, today, Tuesday, compared the performance of the House of Representatives previously headed by Muhammad al-Halbousi, and after it, while they considered the latter to have “insulted” the legislative authority.
A group of representatives said, “The performance of the House of Representatives has changed significantly from what it was during the presidency of Muhammad al-Halbousi,” pointing out that “the previous period was governed by the dictatorship of the president, as we cannot pass any law that serves the citizens.”
They added, “Al-Halbousi abolished the paragraph of the Presidency of Parliament to completely control all decisions of the House of Representatives, as he controlled every small and large thing within the dome of Parliament, including the Council’s agenda, which was devoid of laws and important paragraphs.”
A number of representatives explained that “many of the decisions were objected to by Al-Halbousi as a result of directives that may have been internal or external, conflicting with their interests, and serving the Iraqi people,” stressing by saying: “The one who abused the legislative authority is Al-Halbousi.”
Regarding the current period, they added: “The new phase that Parliament witnessed, after Al-Halbousi, everything changed in it, as we began to feel for the first time that we are representatives, and we carry out our work with all professionalism,” explaining, “The agenda of the current sessions is crowded with important items, in The time when we see Council members presenting their opinions and discussing them in a comprehensive manner, and this has not happened before.”
They stressed, “The former Speaker of Parliament was conducting the Council’s work according to internal and external agendas and directives, and this had a significant negative impact on our performance.”
It is noteworthy that the sessions of the House of Representatives, headed by Muhammad al-Halbousi, were held in late hours and adjourned after a short period of time, at a time when the agenda was devoid of important items.
Earlier today, the House of Representatives held its session, headed by Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, to discuss and read a number of laws, and try to move forward by voting on them, or reading them in a first reading. Ended / 25 Rs
