    Economy News - Baghdad
[rtl]The head of the Basra Provincial Council, Khalaf Al-Badran, expressed his objection to the reduction of the governorate’s budget by the federal government in the tables it sent to Parliament for the year 2024, at a time when Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani justified the reduction in governorate allocations by saying that the governorates’ funds for the previous year and food security funds were still not fully spent. It is ready to finance investment projects in the governorates.[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Badran said: “We were surprised by the reduction of the Basra Governorate budget in the schedules for the current year 2024, from the amount of 2 trillion and 900 billion dinars to only 850 billion dinars, which may not cover the debts of companies and contractors assigned to current service projects.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He added, "The Basra Governorate Council has a position and objection to this budget, and we will discuss this file fully next Saturday," stressing that "we have a meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to object and discuss reducing the budget, which it was hoped would be high given the remaining... Some of the 2023 budget is in financial possession.”[/rtl]
[rtl]He pointed out that "the deducted amounts were allocated to establish service projects in districts and areas that suffer from a lack of services."[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Sudani had revealed in a press conference that there was large amounts of money in the governorates’ funds that had not been spent, noting that the total investment budget for the governorates and the Regional Development Fund amounted to 10.6 trillion, of which only 3.3 trillion had been disbursed, and the remainder was more than 7 trillion, which is at the disposal of governments. Local and available to finance projects, in addition to 11 trillion from the Food Security Law, 38% of which was disbursed, and the remaining more than 7 trillion in the governorates’ accounts.[/rtl]
[rtl]Al-Sudani pointed out that in the capital, Baghdad, we have districts equivalent to two governorates that suffer from a lack of services, considering that increasing financial allocations to the governorates means increasing the budget deficit.[/rtl]
