Victory Coalition: The session to elect a replacement for Halbousi has not been set yet

The Victory Coalition called on the Sunni forces to choose a person to assume the presidency of Parliament as soon as possible, noting that the election session has not been set yet.
Coalition member, Aqeel Al-Rudaini, said, “There are sharp differences between Al-Azm and Al-Taqadum regarding the position of Speaker of Parliament,” noting that “both parties want to obtain the position of Speaker of Parliament.”
Al-Radini added, "The Coordination Framework can decide on the Parliament presidency file at any time, but since the file is the right of the Sunni House, the matter is up to them," noting that "the Framework does not want to officially adopt the issue."
He added that "the Coordination Framework calls on the Sunni House representatives to agree on a specific figure in order to resolve the issue as quickly as possible and avoid the conflicts that accompanied the previous sessions," noting that "the session to elect a replacement for Halbousi has not yet been scheduled and the matter depends on the Sunnis' agreement among themselves."
Last May, the political forces failed to decide on the election of a new speaker of the House of Representatives, after a marathon session that witnessed three rounds of voting for four candidates. The competition was limited in the last two rounds to the two representatives, Salem Al-Issawi and Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani.
In its twenty-fifth session, which was held under the chairmanship of Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, Acting Speaker of the Council, the House of Representatives held the second round with the attendance of 311 representatives.
Al-Issawi, the candidate of the “Sovereignty” coalition led by Khamis Al-Khanjar, won over Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, the candidate of the “Progress” coalition, in the second round of electing the speaker of the Iraqi parliament, with 158 votes, compared to 137 for Al-Mashhadani.
The third competitor, MP Amer Abdul Jabbar, received three votes, and the number of invalid votes was 13.
After a break granted by the acting Speaker of the Council, Mohsen Al-Mandalawi, to the representatives, the third round took place amidst severe tension between the representatives, ending with an argument between the representatives, Haibat Al-Halbousi, from “Progress”, and Ahmed Al-Jubouri, from “Azm”, so the session was adjourned until further notice.
