JOINT BASE ANDREWS, Maryland,— British Defense Secretary Michael Fallon said the Iraqi government was representing the whole country when it was invited to the anti-Islamic State (IS) Coalition conference near Washington.
The statement comes after Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdistan Region has [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] invited to the anti-IS coalition conference in Washington.
Fallon told NRT the Iraqi government is a “coalition government” and the Iraqi defense minister represents all of Iraq at the conference.

“The Iraqi government is represented by the Iraqi Minister for Defense, Minister Obeidi, he is from Mosul, who is a Sunni from Mosul,” Fallon told NRT after a meeting with more than two dozen defense officials and foreign ministers who are in the U.S. for an Iraq donor conference.
“It is a coalition government as you know, composes a Kurdish President, a Shia Prime Minister and a Sunni defense minister but it couldn’t be more representative than that.”
Fallon said the Iraqi government decides who will represent the country at the conference after being asked about the relative lack of Kurdish presence at the conference.
“I think it is for Iraq to decide who represents this conference, each country is represented by one defense minister.”
The Kurdistan Regional Government announced KRG Representative to the U.S. Bayan Sami Abdul Rahman attended the Pledging Conference in Support of Iraq at the State Department as part of an Iraqi delegation led by Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari on Wednesday.
Abdul Rahman will also join the Iraqi delegation led by Jaafari and Obeidi at a joint meeting of defense and foreign ministers in the anti-IS coalition on Thursday.
As senior officials of the international anti-IS Coalition meet outside the U.S. capital this week, KRG representatives and Peshmerga forces are largely absent from talks on how to push forward in military operations.

The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council (KRSC), Masrour Barzani, said on Wednesday it is a “travesty” for the international anti-IS Coalition not to invite Kurds to a meeting on accelerating the military offensive.
U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter said on Wednesday that the U.S. admires the combat power of the Peshmerga forces, adding, “They [Peshmerga forces] are essential partners and we stay very closely in touch with that and very supportive of them.”
Need to be mentioned that Kurdish Peshmerga troops in Iraqi Kurdistan are not unified force, and considered as militias of the ruling parties, the Kurdistan Democratic Party KDP led by Massoud Barzani and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan PUK led by Jalal Talabani.
