Basrah orchards "destroyed" and farmers are similar to the continued bulldozing as "the worst crimes of Saddam"

The uprooting of orchards has been a continuous presence in Basra, despite the high voices calling for it to be stopped. This sparked a wave of popular anger that described what is happening as a "conspiracy." This may be related to an official decision to stop the dredging, but it was considered a "false declaration" to silence those who object to it.
Some farmers went further and likened it to what he described as "the most heinous crimes of Saddam" against the Iraqis, says Jamil Abdullah. While the Southern Oil Company's justifications were met with sharp responses, it did not hesitate to even call oil minister Jabbar al-Luaibi a "liar."
"History repeats itself, the former Saddam committed the same foolishness that the Oil Ministry is committing now under the pretext of oil, and in the end he has only suffered humiliation and disgrace," he said in an interview with the Journal News. Where the head of the former regime swept thousands of hectares of perennial gardens and punished their owners as a result of attacking his motorcade at the time.
The "miserable" compensation does not convince even the children
"On June 23, the Southern Oil Company in the province of Basrah bulldozed palm groves," said Radhi Aziz, head of the agricultural associations in the city's district in Basra. He called on the director of agriculture of the province and the head of agricultural associations in Iraq and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi to "solve this problem."
"These orchards have about 60 varieties of date palms," he said. "The dredging was supposed to be postponed for at least a month until the date palm ripened," Radhi said, adding that "compensation for the Palm and one is 70,000 dinars. This is a crime at a time when we want to improve agriculture in Iraq. "He said.
"Iraq had about 30 million palm trees, but now the number is down to 10 million," he said. "This is a problem."
Another farmer said, "This is the wealth of Iraq, which is unparalleled in wealth. It has a rare variety of palm trees. It is in the city of sanctification of life and the environment. I appeal to every official who has jealousy to stop this crime." "He said.
"The monopolistic companies have exploited the oil minister and the director of the Southern Oil Company," he said. "Would the slaughtering of Basra and its people be their land?"
He added nervously, "God and the blessing of the agent, compensation for Palm Oasis of 70 thousand, is not convinced even the child."
The Basra Oil Company, hastened to issue a clarification on the land-clearing within the field of West Qurna, considering that the land concerned falls within the plan of the operator of the field for the construction of wells complex No. (3), noting that the occupants signed a written commitment binding to remove the plantations and structures and evacuate the land within a maximum of 15 Days from the date of receipt of the amount of compensation that came according to the controls of the Ministry of Agriculture, as she put it, but this was not convincing to the victims who were just "allegations."
Head of the Integrity Committee in Basra, Mohammed al-Mansouri, a response to the South Oil Company, saying, "We were surprised by the statement of the Southern Oil Company, which said it has the right to raze agricultural land in exchange for compensating their owners with material amounts," stressing that "the province needs to afforestation because of higher temperatures and more investment For farms contrary to the razing. "
    Anger in social networking sites
Social networking sites, in turn, caught up with videos that provoked widespread dissatisfaction as they showed bulldozers uprooting and crushing palm groves in Basra, where comments were poured in various kinds of words expressing dissatisfaction with what was going on.
Ala Hashim Albadran wrote in his Facebook page that "the Palm Ministry's Palm Million campaign is to take down a million palm trees, to plant existing orchards, or to plant a million new palm trees?"
"In the name of all the agricultural engineers in Basra, we announced that we rejected this action. We demand accountability for all those who harm the palm tree and agriculture in general, and enough of the scouts," he said. "In the name of all the agricultural engineers in Basra, it is a crime against the country and the environment."
Abu Fatima al-Fartousi said, "This is a major crime and a conspiracy against Iraq. They want Iraq to land without cultivation, or rather they want to land without people and help them with traitors, agents and thieves, God curse the liar before my election, raising slogans and just ending the election, .
Another commentator considered the oil justification to be "marketing rhetoric and passing decisions." "The peasants are simple people, so they do not know how many million people are compensated during the compensation, which is unacceptable to God, history and the homeland," he said.
