Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi announced on Monday the signing of a series of memorandums of understanding between Iraq and Iran, including a memorandum granting visas and facilities to businessmen.

"In the presence of Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi and President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hassan Rowhani, in Baghdad this evening, at the end of the joint talks session, a number of memorandums of understanding were signed," the office said in a statement.

"The memorandum was on the areas of oil, trade, health and transport for the establishment of railways between Basra and Shalamjah, in addition to a memorandum to grant visas and facilities for businessmen and investors."

Iranian President Hassan Rowhani arrived in Baghdad on Monday for an official visit, the first since he took office.
