The Interior Ministry on Sunday issued a clarification on the detention of former Kirkuk governor Najmuddin Karim.
"Based on media reports and social networking sites, news and statements about the fugitive fugitive case required by Najmuddin Omar Karim, the former governor of Kirkuk and the consequences of his arrest and his release on bail in Lebanon, Internal to clarify the following facts:
- The Ministry of the Interior has taken all relevant legal procedures in the case of the recovery of those wanted for the Iraqi judiciary and has been informed of the details of the arrest of the fugitive accused at Beirut airport. The Lebanese Interpol approached the Iraqi Interpol under the cable number 8259 on 21/5/2019, in addition to the continuous telephone calls which indicated that the accused is wanted by the Iraqi judiciary for embezzlement and we requested a reservation until the file is sent. Recovery, the existence of a court order was arrested at the level of Interpol (Radio Research) against the accused, dated 10/31/2018 in addition to an arrest warrant by the Iraqi judiciary and of 12.04.2018.
- We have been informed by the Lebanese Interpol that they released him on bail under the Lebanese laws in force. The passports of the accused were withdrawn and his travel was prevented. They are waiting for the file to be sent back by the competent authorities in Iraq in preparation for the return of the accused and his trial in Iraq under the Extradition Agreement signed between Iraq and Lebanon 1929.
The Ministry of the Interior and the Supreme Government continue to communicate with the Lebanese Interpol and the judicial authorities in Lebanon to implement the agreed international agreements in order to hand over the escaped fugitive (Necmettin Karim) to the Iraqi judicial authorities. What has been mentioned is one of the arrest warrants issued against him.
- The Ministry of the Interior, as a result of its ongoing efforts and contacts with the Lebanese authorities, will present the latest developments in the case, stressing that the ministry will spare no effort in implementing the law and implementing its articles for the recovery of all fugitives.
