Barzani said in a press conference held in Paris on the sidelines of his official visit to France that during a meeting yesterday with President Macron, the importance of supporting Iraq and the Kurdistan region and its sovereignty was emphasized, and he congratulated Iraq and the region on the success of the Pope's visit, describing the visit of the Pope as successful.
He added that the French president "stressed that he would make all attempts to stabilize Iraq, continue to support it politically and economically, and that France is ready to support Iraq within the framework of the international coalition in the war against terrorism."
He continued by saying, "The relationship with neighboring countries, especially Syria, was the subject of our conversation with Mr. Macron as well."
Barzani praised the role played by the French President in mitigating the repercussions that followed the independence referendum conducted by the region, saying: “After the events that occurred in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in 2017, Mr. Macron had a fundamental role in dealing with the problems and if it were not for his role, matters would have become more complicated, especially regarding the differences between Baghdad. Arbil. "
The regional president also stressed that "the stability of Iraq is important to the region and European countries, and our call came to France on this basis to discuss these issues, and our discussions will continue until the stage of stability for Iraq and the region is reached."
He noted that "he has the impression that Macron will play an important role in restoring security and stability in Iraq," noting that after his return to the region, he will discuss the issue of stability in Iraq with the Kurdish and Iraqi political forces.
He added, "France has good economic relations and is definitely trying to develop these relations in the future and in all fields."
Barzani continued by saying that "in yesterday's meeting we focused more on the relationship between the region and France and Macron wants to know what Iraq needs to restore political and security stability in it, as well as the relationship with neighboring countries that we discussed at length."
