It was announced in Baghdad, yesterday, Saturday, that the Iraqi-American Joint Technical Military Committee had agreed in its first meeting on a plan that includes specific mechanisms and timing for completing the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq.
The Joint Iraqi Operations Command said that the Iraqi and American sides had "agreed on a plan that includes specific mechanisms and timing to complete the redeployment of the combat forces of the international coalition outside Iraq," which are led by the American forces.
The leadership indicated in a statement that the Iraqi future received a copy of it that “the two sides agreed on a framework for the upcoming sessions to discuss the security relationship between the two sides in the long term,” explaining that the plan will be completed during the next session of talks that will be held in Baghdad or Washington in the next July or August to implement the outcomes of the dialogue. The Iraqi-American strategist, whose last rounds took place last April, require the completion of the redeployment of the combat forces of the international coalition outside Iraq. She added, "The American side reiterated its respect for Iraqi sovereignty, and that the international coalition led by the United States is in Iraq at the request of the Iraqi government to provide advice, support and enablement in the complete defeat of the terrorist gangs of ISIS."
In turn, the spokesman for the international coalition, Colonel Wayne Maroto, said that the US-Iraqi talks represent progress and are consistent with Washington's commitments to Baghdad.
Maroto said in a tweet on Twitter, "The Commander of the Joint Task Force - Operation Resolve, Paul Calvert, met the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations Lieutenant-General Abdul-Amir Al-Shamri, in Iraq, in the first of a series of technical talks, as agreed during the strategic dialogue between the United States Iraq in April. "These technical talks represent a natural progression of our ongoing dialogue with the Iraqis, and are in line with the commitments made during the US-Iraq Strategic Dialogue," Maroto added. The meeting of this Military Technical Committee took place at the headquarters of the Iraqi Joint Operations Command in Baghdad, headed by the Deputy Commander of the Joint Iraqi Operations, Lieutenant-General Abdul-Amir Al-Shammari, and the Commander of the US forces for Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria, Lieutenant-General Paul Calvert. the long term.
There are still about 3,000 military personnel affiliated with the international coalition against ISIS, including 2,500 American soldiers.
Usually, the positions of these forces and their military convoys are subjected to missile attacks or improvised explosive devices.
And the Iraqi Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, said in statements to reporters, “We have entered so far this year 3 stages of dialogue, and in the second stage we succeeded in obtaining a clear recognition from former US President Trump that the Americans will withdraw from Iraq and before reaching the third stage, we succeeded in reducing the number of forces.” The US forces are in Iraq for more than 60% of these forces.
He explained that the Iraqi-American Military Technical Committee, which was approved by the third stage of the dialogue, will work to find the specific schedule or date for the withdrawal of combat forces from Iraq, and there will certainly be a next stage of the dialogue during the next two months. The two countries are in the areas of health, education and technology as well.
