Shafaq News/ Minister of Oil Ihsan Abdul Jabbar Ismail confirmed on Saturday the keenness of the Iraqi government and the ministry to support clean energy projects by implementing large plans and projects in the field of investing gas associated with oil operations, working to reduce and scaling hydrocarbon emissions, increasing electric power production projects using alternative energy and reducing the use of electricity. heavy fuel.
This came during his participation, via the electronic platform, in the energy transformation workshop organized by the International Energy Organization.
Ismail said that Iraq has taken practical steps to gradually shift towards clean and renewable energy, pointing to the government and ministry’s support for investments in the associated gas sector and converting it into useful energy by adopting a clear strategy by contracting with international companies specialized in this field in the governorates of Basra, Maysan and Dhi Qar, and establishing a gas company Basra, in addition to signing with the French company Total for a set of projects to invest associated gas in addition to other projects carried out by the ministry, leading to an investment of (2600) million standard cubic feet per day within the plans of the Ministry of Oil to invest associated gas from the fields of the southern governorates, and it is hoped that it will be completed before 2026, .He added that the second important axis of Iraq's plans is to add (12 kilowatts) to the national electric power system through the use of alternative energy (solar) by contracting with leading international companies in this sector, and working to switch to the use of gas in the operations of operating stations instead of heavy fuel To reduce emissions and preserve the environment, this is among the priorities of the Iraqi government.
The Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Ministerial Council for Energy affirmed that Iraq abides by international agreements and covenants that affirm commitment to environmental, health and climate standards and to search for the best means to achieve these goals and work to develop them in order to preserve the environment and human health and help achieve sustainable development.
It is noteworthy that this workshop, organized by the International Energy Organization, was organized by ministers, experts in the field of international energy, specialists and research and scientific centers, during which the economic aspects of the transition towards alternative energy and the technical aspects of technology, plans and studies related to this matter were discussed.
