The Ministry of Agriculture announced, on Tuesday, the development of a new plan to increase the cultivated areas, while stressing the quest to achieve food security for the citizen.
The ministry's spokesman, Hamid Al-Nayef, said that "the agricultural plan for the current season amounts to two million and 500 thousand dunams, that is, a decrease of 50% compared to last year," noting that "the Ministry of Water Resources is the one who allowed us to cultivate these areas, as it is not possible to cultivate any dunams." without her consent."
He added that "the ministry has prepared an alternative plan that includes planting about 3 million dunams in order to increase the cultivated areas, of which two million and 600,000 dunums are allocated for cultivation of wheat," noting that "this area will be added to the area allocated within the winter plan, amounting to two million and 500 thousand dunums, to become the area The planted kidney is approximately five million.
He added, "This area is secured by water from wells and irrigation," expressing his hope to "get good production and access to food security for the Iraqi citizen, because the agricultural sector, whether animal or vegetable, may be exposed to diseases and other things."
