Representative Alia Nassif demanded the Prime Minister to instruct the opening of border crossings in central and southern Iraq and to save people from the exorbitant price hike in food prices, indicating that only the merchants of the Kurdistan region benefit from this situation because their outlets are open to import and are not subject to the control of the federal government.
And she said in a statement today: "The campaign to starve the south is still going on, as the prices of basic foodstuffs such as vegetables, chicken, meat and fish have risen dramatically, and as a result, the people have become hateful of the national product and consider it a mere lie that deprived them of food and basic materials in their lives," she asked: Did an official toured Basra markets to find out the prices of foodstuffs there? Does he know how people live in light of the continuous closure of the Shalamcheh crossing? There is a famine coming in Basra and all of the southern governorates due to the control of some Kurdish traders to import foodstuffs.”
Nassif indicated: “Protecting the national product should not be the price of starving the people, and what is happening today is clear confusion by the executive institutions, poor planning and the absence of an economic mentality in managing the country, and as usual the poor are getting poorer and the whales (in Baghdad and the region) are getting richer.”
Nassif stressed: “The need for the Prime Minister to instruct the opening of the border crossings in the center and south, the first of which is the Shalamcheh crossing, and to allow the entry of all foodstuffs and make them piled up in the markets at the lowest prices, as long as the state has failed to advance industry and agriculture over the past twenty years.”
