International report: The performance of the Iraqi government during the first 100 days was not satisfactory

An American report stated that the performance of the Iraqi government during the past 100 days was not satisfactory, pointing to its plans on the economic level as unconvincing, calling on the international community to press for the implementation of the commitment to hold early elections.
A report by the Institute for Middle East Studies in Washington dealt with an evaluation of the first hundred days of the new Iraqi government, noting that it had left in the past period during its assumption of responsibility warning signs of what the country might witness in the future.
The report, which was translated by (Al-Mada), stated that “although the government is still in its early days, its actions have strayed greatly from the promises made by Al-Sudani before assuming office, and resulted in a decline in the economy, security, sovereignty and human rights of Iraq.”
And he pointed out, “While the new government took over the task last October, there is some right to give it enough time to prove itself before we deliver judgments. Unfortunately, during the first 100 days, the government put the interests of its supporters ahead of the interests of the public.”
The report emphasized that “the government promised in its program to review and amend the election law within three months in preparation for new elections within a year.”
And he stated, “This is to put Iraq’s wounded democratic path back on track after the events of the October 2021 elections.”
And the report added, “After weeks have passed, it became clear that the main supporters of the prime minister, the leader of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, and the leader of the Fatah coalition, Hadi al-Amiri, are not interested in holding early elections, and that they are determined to remain in power and maintain the current government for a full four-year term.”
And he pointed out, "The government continued on the approach of harming the economy, as usual, by relying on oil revenues on a record basis, generating, in recent months, stable patronage networks, which resulted in a flabby and more bloated public sector."
And the report continues, “There are indications of attempts to carry out necessary reforms to reduce spending and diversify the sources of the economy that depends only on oil.”
And he stressed, "This is by creating real, sustainable job opportunities for hundreds of thousands of young people who enter the workplace annually."
And the report added, "The new government instead plans to increase ongoing spending on public sector salaries for 2023 by an additional 20 trillion dinars ($13.71 billion)."
He stressed, "The money will be used to hire 66,000 new graduates and put another 360,000 temporary workers on the salary scale."
And the report continues, "The government focused on making patchwork improvements in a few areas and with regard to services, and for a country with a population of 42 million people, such attempts do nothing towards creating real tangible progress."
And he stressed, “The current government promised, like the rest of its predecessors, to fight corruption, but so far there are no indications of progress in this field.”
The report noted that “the government’s first task, in its response to what is known as the theft of the century, was that in late November it had uncovered one of the main suspects in the theft.”
He continued, "The government has made a deal with this person to recover the stolen sums within two weeks."
And the report added, “After more than two months have passed since the suspect was released, only 8% of the total money has been recovered.”
And he added, “While the map of the criminal network is still awaiting its disclosure, it appears that it includes a wide circle of political figures, including those who were close to the former prime minister.”
And the report stated, “The suspended recovery of the money, which the government said it was in the process of recovering, indicates that the money is protected by a strong political and authoritarian cover that exceeds the prime minister’s ability to deal with it.”
The report promised, "The government's performance with regard to the security aspect and the defense of Iraq's sovereignty was also weak."
He added, "Iran and Turkey, as they did in the past years, continue to violate the sovereignty of Iraq."
The report stresses that “the Commander-in-Chief, since assuming the position, did not respond to these violations with more than an objection from him.”
He believes that "the government failed to confront Iran's attacks with drones and missiles on the Kurdistan region in mid-November, and when he met Iranian leaders days after these recent attacks."
The report went, "The government's message was not an objection to their actions, but rather expressed gratitude for the Iranian side's offer of support to secure its borders."
He demanded, “The international community to be careful and careful in dealing with Baghdad and to adopt a clear and balanced approach by encouraging the government and reminding it that in order to maintain its credibility inside and outside Iraq, it must focus on conducting substantial investigations and prosecuting those involved in corruption and human rights violations.”
And he continues, “This is in order to support the aspirations of the people who deserve to live in dignity, receive a good education, be part of an effective economy, drink clean water, and rule the people themselves.”
The report went on to "call on the international community also to put pressure on Baghdad to hold free and fair elections as planned and to stand up to attempts to prevent reforms in the electoral law that were put forward after the 2019 protests and for which many Iraqis sacrificed."
