Shalaw Ali Askari, a working member of the Political Bureau of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, described the situation of governance in the Kurdistan region as "complicated and bad."
Askari said in a televised statement: "Dissonance prevails over consensus in the region," noting that "the Patriotic Union sacrificed thousands of martyrs in order to establish a unified Kurdish entity, not two or three," as he put it.
He added, "At the beginning of the formation of the ninth cabinet of the regional government, the prime minister appointed advisers and gave them more powers than the powers of the ministers, and this in itself constitutes the formation of a shadow government within the government."
He explained, "The essence of the dispute between the Patriotic Union and the Kurdistan Democratic Party is the failure to implement the political agreements to form a coalition government," noting that "relations are not good between the two parties in the government."
Askari blamed the Democratic Party for "the reason for that," saying: "The Democrat did not abide by the terms of the agreement to form the government, as well as the agreements concluded between the political bureaus of the two parties."
It is noteworthy that the climax of the dispute between the two Kurdish parties in the Kurdistan region worsened in recent months, when the Patriotic Union withdrew its ministerial team and did not attend the meetings of the regional government, describing it as "the worst government in the history of the region, which pays the price for its non-transparent policy in managing the oil sector." The head of the regional government, Masrour Barzani, pushed, in a letter addressed to the citizens, to accuse the Union Party of "creating obstacles in front of the Kurdistan Regional Government and causing the improper collection of imports in its areas of influence," and held it "responsible for the dire financial situation in Sulaymaniyah and its political dependencies."
