    Shafaq News/ Iraq imported more than 2,000 tons of rice, during the month of July 2023, according to estimates of global supply and demand of the US Department of Agriculture.
    According to the schedule of the US Department of Agriculture, which was seen by Shafaq News Agency, "Iraq imported rice from multiple origins by 2,200 tons and the same quantity for last July," noting that "this quantity decreased from the same period last year, which amounted to an average of 2,124 tons."



    And she added, "Iraq's imports of rice are expected to decrease for the same period next year 2024, to reach 1,900 tons."
    The US Department of Agriculture also indicated that "Iraq ranked first in the Arab world with the most imported quantities of rice, followed by Saudi Arabia with 1,300 tons, followed by the United Arab Emirates with 900 tons, and then Egypt with 500 tons."
    Iraq imports rice from several origins, including Thai, Vietnamese, American and Argentine, while the private sector imports basmati rice of Indian origin.
