[size=45]NATO announced that it would assume additional missions in Iraq, including advisory and capacity-building roles, in support of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior forces and the Federal Police Command.[/size]
[size=45]This comes amid ambiguity surrounding the reasons that prompted the United States to reinforce its military forces on the Iraqi-Syrian border, in light of information indicating a possible battle in the region.[/size]
[size=45]During the past few days, the American forces brought in military reinforcements, including vehicles and soldiers, on the Syrian border, coming from the Iraqi side towards the city of Al-Qaim near the border city of Al-Bukamal along the Euphrates River.[/size]
[size=45]The international coalition forces, led by Washington, also conducted military exercises, in which warplanes participated, at the Koniko base in the northern countryside of Deir Ezzor.[/size]
[size=45]And the alliance stated in a statement that, “At the request of the Iraqi authorities, and by a decision of the NATO Council yesterday, Thursday, the scope of the alliance’s mission in Iraq will also include advisory and capacity-building missions to support the Iraqi Ministry of Interior and the Federal Police Command.”[/size]
[size=45]"NATO" stated that "this additional activity will be carried out in conjunction with the support also provided by other countries and international organizations," stressing at the same time that all NATO activities are being carried out "at Iraq's request and with full respect for the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity."[/size]
[size=45]And NATO indicated that “its mission in Iraq was established in 2018, and it is tasked with providing advice to defense and security officials in the Ministry of Defense, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and the Operations Center of the Prime Minister, and now it will also include the Ministry of Interior and the Federal Police Command.”[/size]
[size=45]NATO's statement concluded that "its mission in Iraq will provide advice to professional military education institutions in the Greater Baghdad area."[/size]
[size=45]The commander of Operation Inherent Resolve in the Joint Task Force Command in Iraq and Syria, US General Matthew MacFarlane, revealed yesterday, Thursday, that the coalition monitored “threats” led by groups in Iraq on social media platforms, stating that the bases of the international military mission were targeted.[/size]
