The Iraqi judiciary issues death sentences and life imprisonment against drug traffickers

Shafaq News/ The Karkh Criminal Court issued sentences ranging from death to life imprisonment against three drug dealers for the crime of trafficking in the sale of the narcotic substance “methylamphetamine”.
The media center of the Supreme Judicial Council stated in a statement today, Wednesday, that “the court issued two death sentences against two convicts who were found in possession of (2) kilograms of the narcotic substance methylamphetamine, with the intention of trading in it and selling it among drug users in the Shula area in Baghdad,” pointing out that “the two rulings were Issued in accordance with the provisions of Article 27 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Law No. 50 of 2017.”
He added, "The same court issued a life imprisonment sentence against a third convict who was found in possession of (1) kilo of crystal and a bag containing the narcotic marijuana substance in Erbil Governorate, with the intention of selling it to drug users by distributing it to the rest of the governorates," noting that "the ruling against him comes based on According to the provisions of Article 28/First of the Narcotics Law.”
