    Today, Monday, Minister of Justice Khaled Shawani issued directives regarding Basra Central Prison. 
    A statement by the Ministry of Justice, received by the “Al-Ma’louma” Agency, stated that “Minister of Justice, Khaled Shawani, conducted a field visit to the Basra Central Prison, to review the conditions of the inmates and follow up on their legal and humanitarian issues. He also inspected the corridors of the prison sections, which included the rehabilitation and training department and the technical workshops, and viewed the Inmates’ products of furniture, sewing, and other handicrafts.”
    He added, "The Minister of Justice heard directly from a number of inmates regarding their humanitarian, health, and service conditions inside the prison."
    Shwani instructed the human rights committees affiliated with the Ministry of Justice to “conduct a periodic visit to Basra Central Prison, and directed to “equip the prison with medical supplies and equipment to monitor their health conditions to prevent communicable diseases.” The Minister of Justice met with the prison staff and correctional guards, where he praised “their efforts.
