On Monday, the Ministry of Agriculture indicated three reasons behind the reluctance of most graduates to apply for agricultural full-time positions.
Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Mehdi Sahar, said in a statement reported by the official news agency, and seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the ministry is awaiting the House of Representatives’ vote on amending Law No. 24 of 2013 for full-time agricultural workers.”
Sahar added, “Most of the graduates did not apply to pursue agriculture full-time, due to the difficulty of obtaining nearby agricultural land and providing a water share for it, or the lack of financial capacity due to the high interest rates of the Cooperative Agricultural Bank loans, or to search for an opportunity for employment instead of full-time agriculture.”
He pointed out, "The instructions of the current agricultural full-time law do not encourage agricultural graduates to devote themselves to agriculture full-time."
