The Ministry of Agriculture has prepared a package of important development projects for the sector in the country, which will be implemented successively during the current year.
The Ministry’s Administrative Undersecretary, Dr. Mahdi Sahar al-Jubouri, said in a statement to “Al-Sabah”: His Ministry has prepared a strategic plan that includes a package of important development projects for the sector, especially for the current year, most notably the establishment of orchards for palm mothers and their shoots through tissue farming technology, which will be implemented during the current year. For the purpose of increasing the number of seedlings of rare and economic varieties and selling them to farmers at subsidized prices. He explained that maintaining environmental changes to stabilize sand dunes and combat desertification in the country had a leading role in the Ministry’s plans, by adopting a project to develop and improve forest trees and increase the planting of Eucalyptus trees to preserve the environment, stabilize the soil from erosion, and protect the environment from dust storms.
Al-Jubouri continued that the projects also include the continuation of the implementation of the Genetic Resources Bank project, which aims to preserve the genetic assets of livestock in Iraq, as well as the project to implement centers and establish a network of extension farms, among which he considered the most important projects for the current year, through publishing research conducted in the Department of Agricultural Research and Transfer of Modern Technology.
