    Baghdad today - Diyala
Today, Sunday (April 21, 2024), the independent candidate for the position of Diyala Governor, Ali Khawam Al-Tamimi, sent a letter to the Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani, warning of the situation sliding into undesirable consequences in the governorate.
Al-Tamimi said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "The delay in forming the Diyala local government for more than 3 months created a heated media exchange between several parties that could lead to undesirable consequences in light of tension that has become a source of concern for all segments without exception."
Al-Tamimi added, "He is sending an important message to the Prime Minister by intervening in the Diyala file and managing an initiative similar to what is happening in Kirkuk, by bringing together all parties in Baghdad and proceeding with a road map that ends the complex of forming a local government while ensuring protection for all candidates for the governorate position, especially the independents," explaining the reasons. “Because we are subjected to threats and pressures that have led to us being prevented from entering one of the Diyala Council sessions, which was held in the capital weeks ago.”
He pointed out that "protecting the democratic principle falls on the responsibility of the government and the security services, and the media bickering has reached its peak, and we fear childish behavior here and there that may lead to setting fires in Diyala as a whole," pointing out that "Sudanese intervention is important in order to avoid matters sliding into stages that he does not want." "The people."
Al-Tamimi called on Diyala’s tribal and social elites to “take a firm stance on the calls launched through social media platforms that seek to divide and stir up strife among the various components, and to seek to raise the slogan of Diyala as one clan, as called for by the leader of the Bani Tamim tribes, the late Yahya al-Hassan, decades ago in a historic feat that consecrates The principle of class unity and the rejection of division.”
On Monday (April 15, 2024), armed groups with shaded vehicles attacked the “Al-Kurwi” host in an attempt to dissuade them from voting for a specific candidate in the provincial council, according to their statement.
In addition to threatening a number of members of the Council and representatives who support one candidate over another, which forced them to issue statements of condemnation and call for help from the security forces.
