    The head of the Media and Communications Commission, Ali Al-Moayyad, announced on Monday that one of the most important international companies has begun auditing the revenues of mobile phone companies operating in Iraq.
    The authority stated in a statement, seen by Al-Iqtisad News, that “its president announced that KPMG, one of the largest international auditing companies, will begin auditing the revenues of mobile phone companies in Iraq during the past six years, starting from the year 2017 to the year 2022.”
    Al-Moayad stressed that “this step comes within the framework of the Authority’s efforts to enhance transparency and combat tax evasion in the communications and information technology sector, and to ensure that the state obtains its full financial rights, according to the Authority’s statement.
    He explained that “KPMG has a distinguished international reputation in the field of financial and accounting auditing, and is among the four largest companies in the world that provide auditing and accounting services to companies,” pointing out that “the Authority, through this contract, aims to ensure the accuracy and prudence of mobile phone companies’ revenues.” And to ensure its compliance with the financial laws and regulations in force in Iraq.”
    Al-Moayyad pointed out, “Today a meeting was held with company representatives at the Authority’s headquarters to mark the start of work and determine the steps for implementing the audit process.”
    The authority’s statement continued, “KPMG presented to the authority its plan to audit the revenues of mobile phone companies, which includes analyzing the companies’ financial statements, ensuring the validity and integrity of the accounting procedures followed, and conducting interviews with the companies’ employees.”
    He stressed that "this step reflects the Communications and Media Authority's keenness to ensure that the state obtains its full financial rights from the communications sector, and to enhance transparency in this vital sector."
