In conjunction with the withdrawal of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Masoud Barzani, from boycotting the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections, it was decided to open the door to candidacy to alliances, entities, parties, individuals, and component candidates wishing to participate, based on the decision of the Board of Commissioners.
The Independent Election Commission stated, in a statement, that “the Kurdistan Democratic Party submitted to the Department of Political Parties and Organizations Affairs a letter expressing interest to participate in the 2024 Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections. The
Erbil Elections Office’s media official, Ahmed Mazen, told Al-Sabah: It is based on my decision.” The Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission decided to open the door for registration of alliances, parties, individual candidates, and individual candidates for components wishing to participate in the 2024 Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections for a period of six days until the 13th of this month.

Yesterday, Saturday, the Federal Election Commission asked the Presidency of the Kurdistan Region to set a new date for the region’s parliament elections, which were scheduled to be held on the tenth of this month, proposing that it be on the fifth of next September.
In turn, the Director of the Operations and Information Technology Department at the Commission, Walid Khaled Abbas, explained to Al-Sabah that “the Commission will use the electronic voting devices, software, and electronic card that were used in the recent provincial council elections in the regional parliament elections.”
He added, “The Commission added what it deems correct and a guarantee of the integrity of the elections to the Kurdistan Regional Parliament elections law, to which some amendments were made, after it adopted the decision of the Federal Court, which granted it exclusive authority to establish procedures and regulations related to the electoral process, including the use of verification, acceleration, and transmission devices and the electoral card.” Exclusively biometric.”
