Today, Thursday, the Ministry of Water Resources announced the adoption of a new plan for water releases based on temperatures in each governorate, while revealing a plan that helps maintain water quality and prevent migration from the marshes.
The Director General of the Marshlands and Wetlands Revitalization Center affiliated with the Ministry of Resources, Hussein Al-Kinani, said in an interview with the Iraqi News Agency, followed by Al-Iqtisad News, that “the center has developed a plan since 2021 that included expanding nutrients, converting them into large rivers, and linking them together to preserve water quality,” pointing out. Moreover, this plan helped the local population remain in the marshes, after they had previously migrated to other areas. This is due to the dryness of their areas.”
He pointed out, “Rising temperatures increase evaporation rates,” indicating, “There is a plan for water releases in all governorates to depend on the temperatures in each governorate.”
He stated, “The situation in Dhi Governorate bitumen during the current year is better than the previous two years,” stressing, “an increase in water releases in Maysan from the Al-Kahla system and the Al-Khoms system towards the Hawizeh marshes and the central marshes.”
He continued, “The marshes of Dhi Qar Governorate depend mainly on the Euphrates River.”
