    Economy News - Follow-up
[rtl]Iraq's first wind energy project is set to officially launch, with the country set to sign contracts soon.[/rtl]
[rtl]The Ministry of Electricity is scheduled to sign a contract to establish a wind and solar power plant project in Wasit Governorate with the Emirati company "Amea Power", which intends to pump large investments into this project.[/rtl]
[rtl]The first wind energy project in Iraq comes within the federal government’s program in Baghdad, which aims to solve the electricity crisis in the country, by adopting and diversifying renewable energy sources, and including them in the energy mix in the government’s electricity grid.[/rtl]
[rtl]The AMEA Power project in Iraq supports Baghdad’s plans to adopt renewable energy sources and increase their contribution to the electricity mix, especially with the recurring crises witnessed by the Iraqi electricity sector, which relies heavily on gas.[/rtl]
    [rtl]AMEA Power Project in Iraq[/rtl]
[rtl]The AMEA Power project in Iraq is scheduled to be established in the Al-Shahabi area in Wasit Governorate, with a capacity of 1000 megawatts. The project’s capacity is expected to be distributed as follows: 500 megawatts of wind energy and 500 megawatts of solar energy.[/rtl]
[rtl]The first wind energy project in Iraq, which will be established by the Emirati company with extensive experience in renewable energy projects, is a hybrid station, which combines two types of energy: wind energy and solar energy.[/rtl]

[rtl]Sources in the Ministry of Electricity had said in statements that the AMEA Power project in Iraq is an introduction to more renewable energy projects in the future, especially wind energy.[/rtl]
[rtl]It is noteworthy that the Minister of Electricity, Ziad Ali Fadel, had met with officials of the Emirati company AMEA Power, and confirmed to them that the location of the first wind energy project in Iraq was carefully chosen, after studying the wind speed in the region, using satellites, according to the information available to the Energy Platform.[/rtl]
    [rtl]Electricity crisis in Iraq[/rtl]
[rtl]Sources in the Ministry of Electricity said that the Iraqi government is currently interested in launching such projects - especially wind energy projects - with the aim of supporting the electricity sector.[/rtl]
[rtl]Iraq achieved a historic breakthrough in electricity production on July 1, 2024, as the country’s production reached about 27,000 megawatts for the first time, which is considered an important step for the sector, which is currently facing repeated setbacks.[/rtl]
[rtl]Despite this significant increase in the country’s electricity production, the government is counting on Iraq’s first wind energy project to help address the severe electricity crisis that has forced it to resort to planned power cuts as one of the main solutions to meet the growing demand.[/rtl]
[rtl]A source in the Ministry of Electricity had stated to Energy Platform that the deficit in electricity supplies amounts to about 19,000 megawatts/hour per day, as the country needs about 49,000 megawatts, while the production volume did not exceed 27,000 megawatts.[/rtl]
[rtl]It is noteworthy that some Iraqi cities and governorates face scheduled power outages of up to 4 hours per day, reaching up to 6 hours in other areas, which the government seeks to avoid by establishing giant projects, such as the Amia Power project in Iraq.[/rtl]
