The Union of Importers and Exporters in the Kurdistan Region confirmed, on Sunday, that it seeks to transform the region into a producer instead of just an importer.
The head of the union, Sheikh Mustafa Abdul Rahman, said, “Trade exchange between the Kurdistan Region and neighboring countries is very important to enhance the economic situation, and we need to pay attention to our local products, reduce imports from abroad, and start exporting the surplus production abroad.”
He added, "We seek to cooperate with Turkish companies to invest in the city of Sulaymaniyah and we will provide them with all the necessary facilities. This cooperation will contribute to strengthening trade relations and developing the economy of the Kurdistan Region."
Abdul Rahman said, “The annual trade volume with Turkey amounts to 10 billion dollars, and with Iran 6 billion dinars, and we are now seeking to transform ourselves into producers and exporters as well.
