    Baghdad Today-Baghdad
MP for the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Gharib Ahmed, confirmed today, Monday (July 22, 2024), that the federal government will be obligated to implement the unification of retirees’ salaries in the Kurdistan Region with the rest of the Iraqi governorates.
Ahmed said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "There is a decision by the Federal Court to unify the salaries of retirees and distribute retirement salaries in the Kurdistan Region according to the unified Iraqi retirement law."
He added that "the Ministry of Finance in the regional government sent lists of retirees according to Iraqi law, and therefore the federal Ministry of Finance is obligated to implement the order and pay the salaries of retirees, according to the law, but there are technical procedures, numbers and calculations that Baghdad needs, as well as the availability of financial liquidity to distribute the salaries of retirees in the region according to the law."
According to the decision of the Federal Supreme Court, the salaries of Kurdistan retirees will be paid in accordance with the provisions of the Unified Retirement Law No. 9 of 2014 in force in Baghdad, which replaced Law No. 27 of 2006, as there are approximately 278 thousand retirees in Kurdistan whose salaries will increase after the application of the Federal Retirement Law to them, as the minimum salary for Iraqi retirees is 500 thousand dinars, while the minimum salary for Kurdistan retirees is 220 thousand dinars, which means that the application of the decision of the Federal Supreme Court will raise the minimum salary for the region’s retirees by about 130%.
