    Baghdad Today - Kirkuk
An informed source revealed, today, Friday (July 12, 2024), that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan is conducting a movement with the Arab and Turkmen blocs to curb the Kurdistan Democratic Party in Kirkuk.
The source told Baghdad Today, "After yesterday's session, the Patriotic Union has become afraid that the Kurdistan Democratic Party will go in alliance with the Arab and Turkmen blocs and share positions in Kirkuk."
He added, "The National Union bloc will conduct a visit to representatives and leaders of the Arab and Turkmen blocs, and most likely everyone will go in the direction of rotating the governor's position and other positions, but the difference now is between the Democratic Party and the Union, as the latter wants the Kurdish share to be a governor from the Union exclusively, while the Democratic Party wants the governor to be an independent Kurd."
He pointed out that "the differences are not within the Kurdish house, but even within the Arab alliances there is a lack of agreement on naming positions."
It is noteworthy that the member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, Wafa Muhammad Karim, revealed yesterday, Thursday, the details of the Kirkuk agreement that was recently announced by the Prime Minister, indicating that the provincial council session that was held today came in implementation of Al-Sudani’s desire, without any agreement on the positions, as the agreement included “holding the session only.”
Mohammed Karim said in an interview with Baghdad Today that "there was no agreement between the components, nor even within the same component, but rather just a first session of the Kirkuk Council, headed by the oldest member, to give legal legitimacy to the new council."
He added that "the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan boycotted the session the first time, but returned to attend it after it was assured that there was no agreement between any component to name the new governor and form the new government, because it feared that," noting that "the provincial council session held today was an implementation of the Prime Minister's wish."
The dispute that erupted in the first session of the Kirkuk Council explains the absence of any real agreement, according to what Al-Sudani announced, and that the political crisis “has not been resolved,” and Al-Sudani’s influence was limited to pushing the political forces to hold the session only, without deciding what would happen after it.
The Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, called on the members who won the Kirkuk Council membership the day before yesterday to hold the first session of the Council, headed by the oldest member, indicating the resolution of the governorate crisis and the establishment of the Kirkuk Administration Coalition.
