Shafaq News/ The political advisor to the Iraqi Prime Minister, Fadi Al-Shammari, described the electricity file in the country as "very complex", stressing the need not to make promises without ensuring the availability of the appropriate ground.
Al-Shammari pointed out in statements to local media today, Sunday, that the electrical power transmission line system had reached its end of life in 2000, and that $11 billion is paid annually for 58% of the wasted electrical energy.
Al-Shammari added that corruption is the main reason for the collapse of the electricity file, and that Iran or America have nothing to do with the matter, stressing that the file is causing a state of depletion for the citizen and the state, as 16 billion dollars are being spent without effective solutions.
He also pointed out that the experience of privatizing electricity in the regions was successful, indicating that the experience of privatizing the Ziona region reduced electricity consumption from 51 megawatts for only 4 hours to 21 megawatts for 24 hours.
Al-Shammari stressed that there are no immediate solutions to the electricity crisis, and that there are more than 400 projects to resolve bottlenecks in the transmission and distribution of electrical energy, with each project requiring two years to complete.
