    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
The Parliamentary Integrity Committee confirmed, today, Saturday (July 27, 2024), that the relevant parliamentary committees are following up and monitoring all contracts concluded by the ministries.
Committee member Gharib Askar said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The relevant parliamentary committees follow up and monitor all contracts concluded by ministries and all state institutions, and study those contracts, and any contract that contains any comments or suspicions, the officials responsible for those contracts are hosted to discuss those comments and others."
Askar added that "the House of Representatives is the oversight body over the work of all state institutions, and it has the right to review the details of any contracts concluded by any ministry or any agreement signed by the government with any foreign country, and this parliamentary follow-up and oversight has greatly contributed to reducing corruption and preventing the waste of public money."
In August of last year, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Commission was able to dismantle a network consisting of officials and affiliates in the Ministries of Justice, Trade, Electricity, Interior, Defense, Construction and Housing who were forging contracts and approvals attributed to senior state authorities to sell and rent plots of land belonging to the Ministry of Trade.
The Commission stated in a statement at the time that it was able to execute the arrest and seizure orders issued against one of the judicial assistants in the Ministry of Justice who heads the network, an accounts manager in the Ministry of Construction and Housing who impersonated the director of the contracts department in the ministry, a former member of the intelligence and security department affiliated with the Ministry of Defense, a member of the Interior Affairs Department, and an employee in the Ministry of Electricity.
The former Director of the Office of the Minister of Commerce, who currently holds the position of Director General in the Ministry, was also summoned for forging and signing contracts at the headquarters of one of the ministries. A group of (forged) approvals attributed to the Ministries of Oil and Commerce were seized, as well as (forged) letters attributed to the Office of the Prime Minister, and (forged) seals attributed to the Ministry of Commerce.
The network, according to the Authority’s statement, deceived one of the company owners into obtaining approvals for five plots of land belonging to the Ministry of Commerce in exchange for more than (3) million dollars, which the head of the network received according to delivery receipts that were seized.
