    Baghdad Today - Basra
Today, Tuesday (August 27, 2024), Member of Parliament for Basra Governorate, Rafiq Al-Salihi, expressed his rejection of the Cabinet’s decision to transfer oil companies to central financing instead of transferring them independently.
Al-Salihi said during his attendance at the employees’ demonstrations in Basra, according to a video clip received by “Baghdad Today”, that “the decision of Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani and the Council of Ministers must be cancelled,” stressing that “Basra’s oil companies belong to the people of the province and we must not submit to the decision of the Council of Ministers regarding converting them to centralization.”
Al-Salihi pledged that "the House of Representatives, especially the governorate's representatives, will seek to cancel this decision."
A number of employees announced earlier today, Tuesday, the start of closing a number of oil sites in preparation for demonstrations that started this morning in protest against the decision of the Council of Ministers and the budget to transform oil companies into central financing companies.
