US Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter said he "will emphasize the need to respect the sovereignty of Iraq" during his visit on Friday to Turkey, which has entered into a dispute with Iraq over who should take part in the restoration of the city of Mosul from Daesh campaign.
Carter, who has refused to recognized the sensitivity of the matter to disclose whether he thought he should be allowed to Turkey to take part in operations in Iraq.
Washington had previously said that a decision on this matter in the hands of Baghdad.
Carter said "certainly we will talk about it, and of course there are sensitivities, we act as well as the coalition out of respect for the sovereignty of Iraq, this is an important principle for us."
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been disappointed by the lack of participation in the north of his country -aledo Alotalsa- alliance is the largest in the US-backed attack on Mosul also angered Washington's support for Kurdish guerrillas fighting Daesh in Syria.
When asked about the Turkish air strikes that targeted a group of Kurdish fighters allied with the US-backed fighters in northern Syria, the US defense secretary said, "He is not sure what happened exactly," he said. "I can not be explained so far."
An official at the Pentagon Thursday that the specific groups that bombed by Turkish planes are not backed by Washington, but "close and good link" with the insurgents to cooperate with Washington.
