Arbil/ Iraq TradeLink: Samples of the proposed Kurdish currency were leaked out in preparation of the coming independence referendum.
A Kurdish designer is planning to make 10 designs for the new Kurdish currency, which idea was started in 1994, when the Kurdish region got its autonomy from the previous Iraqi regime with the assistance of the United States.
It was proposed that the new banknotes will cover parts of the Kurdish history, not Iraq's.
Some Kurdish sources reported that President Masoud Barzani is pressing to put the photo of his father Mustapha Barzani as political and tribal symbol, but some other Kurdish politicians rejected the idea, because the father fled the region to be protected by Iranian ruler
