    announced the Ministry of Transport on Monday announced the opening of tenders for the construction of the first phase of the port of Faw in the presence of three major international companies. 

    The ministry said in a statement received by Alsumaria News, a copy of it, that "the General Company for Iraqi Ports opened today, bids for the first phase of the construction of the port of Faw, in the presence of Minister of Transport Kazem Finjan Al- Hamami and the Director General of the company Riyad Swadi Shamki and a collection of departmental officials and the people in the company."







    "The tender was opened in the presence of three major companies, Daewoo, the International Drilling Companies Coalition and the Csecc consortium," the statement quoted the general manager as saying. 

    For his part, stressed the Minister of Transport, according to the statement, the need to "adopt transparency and fairness in the consideration of the offers advanced by the major international companies that would like to work in the port of Faw," noting that "the companies that attended the bids are highly observant and highly efficient in the field of strategic projects giant and have experience Wide world. " 

    "The project is a major step forward for the Iraqi economy and raises the financial capabilities of the country and attracts international companies to transport their goods and goods through this port," he said.

    The Ministry of Transport announced on 30 March 2015 that the Ministry has decided to put the project of the port of Faw as an investment opportunity for all qualified investors who wish to invest the project under the Investment Law No. 13 of 2006 and its amendments and the regulations and instructions attached, indicating that this comes within the policy of the Ministry of Transport and Baqer Al-Zubaidi to promote investment and joint operation in the Ministry's companies. 

    The Ministry of Transport, in April 2010, laid the foundation stone for the port of Faw, which, according to the basic designs of an Italian consulting firm on a 3500-meter container berth and another 2,000-meter berth, as well as a storage area of ​​more than one million Square meters, and another multi-purpose square with an area of ​​600 thousand square meters.

    The total capacity of the port is 99 million tons per year. The total cost of the project is estimated at four billion and 400 million Euro. The project is the largest investment project in Iraq because of its great economic importance. 

    In mid-2013, the Ministry of Transport contracted Greek company Arcolidon to set up an eastern wave barrier at the port site for a length of 8 km. The completion rate of the project was more than 90%. The ministry contracted South Korea's Daewoo toconstruct the Amwaj Another cost $ 511 million, and extends the barrier length of 16 km, has reached the completion rate to 10%.
