Qatari official: allegations of payment of ransom for the release of hostages in Iraq, "a lie"

Qatar's ambassador to Washington, Mishal bin Hamad al-Thani, refuted allegations of the release of Qatari hostages in Iraq.
In an article published in the Washington Post, entitled "Qatar did not pay a ransom," the allegations that Qatar paid a ransom for terrorists in return for the release of Qatari hostages in Iraq a lie invented by a government.
Al-Thani said repeated allegations were aimed at discrediting Qatar in exchange for ignoring the abduction of 26 innocent Qataris.
He denied paying the State of Qatar any ransom to free those kidnapped despite the attempts by many parties to extort money.
He stressed that Qatar succeeded in freeing the hostages in cooperation with the Iraqi government.
He said: It is true that many parties came to Qatar and tried to exploit the kidnapping for financial extortion, but Qatar did not pay ransom and we did not provide any funding for terrorist groups.
"Qatar successfully secured the release of these abductees by working with the Iraqi government and we are grateful for the safe return of our citizens and hope that this tragedy will never be repeated with any other country.
He said in response to an article in the newspaper: The article presented a false story fabricated by a foreign government, and instead of reference to reference to facts and official statements, the article was based on the transfer of materials supplied by a foreign government anonymous.
He asked why the government did not share these materials and information during the kidnapping. "If that government had concerns about Qatar's actions, why did not you ask those issues with our government?" He said.
He said: In June 2017 and after days of the siege of Qatar, one of the embargoed countries asked the UN Security Council to investigate whether Qatar had paid ransom for the release of Qatari abductees .. The UN Security Council did not find those allegations that are unfounded It has not provided any state evidence of the matter ».
He cited the questioning of an American intelligence official in media accounts of the ransom issue. The official stressed that it was difficult for any media coverage of the ransom issue to be correct.
The Washington Post published the end of last April, the contents of leaked Qatari correspondents on the payment of funds to release the kidnappers of Qataris in Iraq.
The correspondence showed that the Qatari ambassador in Baghdad complained about the deal to release the Qatari hostages and called it a robbery against his country.
