Baghdad / Obelisk: Othman Karim, a member of the Kurdistan Regional Parliament, spoke on Sunday, December 13, 2020, about the latest developments in negotiations between Baghdad and Erbil, revealing a role for the United Nations and the presidency of the republic.

Karim described, during a press statement followed by the obelisk, the negotiations conducted by the regional government delegation, with the federal government, as very positive, indicating that there is a sincere intention on the part of the two parties to solve the problems and differences, especially with regard to the issue of employee salaries and the region’s share of the 2021 budget.

He indicated that there are international and presidential guarantees to keep the agreement going, stressing that the guarantees can dispel the concerns regarding the region’s lack of commitment to deliver oil and the revenues from the ports, including that the agreement is sponsored by the President of the Republic, or the United Nations, so that the concerns are removed.

He stressed that the regional government has the desire to deliver all of the oil, not just 250 thousand barrels, but on the condition that Baghdad fulfills all financial obligations towards the region, including the salaries of employees and the Peshmerga in full and bear the expenses of the oil company, and pay the salaries of the martyrs and Anfal.

The Kurdistan Region delegation headed by Qubad Talabani, Vice President of the Regional Government, held a meeting today with the Ministers of Finance and Oil, in the presence of SOMO, for the purpose of determining the oil exported from the region and determining the amounts of non-oil revenues in implementation of the law on financing the deficit approved by the House of Representatives.

The Parliamentary Finance Committee announced its rejection of any agreement with the region outside the authority of Parliament and the Parliamentary Finance Committee, while indicating that whoever violates the law on financing the fiscal deficit bears legal responsibility within the House of Representatives.
