Diab added, "Dams are usually built to prevent the salt tide from entering the rivers," noting that "the appropriate site for constructing the dam in terms of practicality is the mouth."
He continued, "There are variables that occurred in the Shatt al-Arab after Iran cut off the Karun River completely and cut off the rivers on the banks of the Shatt and they were closed, and thus the tidal wave became stronger," explaining that "Iran will commit, in the event of a final agreement on the construction of the dam, to release quantities of water." It will not close the Karun River continuously as it used to, for fear of the salt tide reaching the Karun River."
He stressed, "The presence of the dam will make Iran commit to release quantities of Karun waters into the Shatt al-Arab so that the environment of the Shatt and navigation in it will perpetuate, as it is the largest beneficiary of the Shatt al-Arab for navigation, describing the presence of Muhammarah and Abadan ports in the Arabistan region, more actively than Iraqi ports on the Shatt al-Arab."
The spokesman pointed out, "The project will restore the Shatt al-Arab to its nature as a non-saline water channel, and categorically prevent the salt tide from reaching Basra, which is the ideal solution." generally".
Concerning the dam’s location, the advisor said, “The goal is to preserve the freshness of the water in the Shatt al-Arab, as the mouth of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers contains stable environmental properties of natural tide and fish.”
He added, "A meeting was supposed to be held between Iraq and Iran last June, but it was postponed due to the formation of the government in Iran, and we expect that the proposal will be presented after the formation of the Iranian government," stressing that there are "indications of water pumping by Iran to the Sirwan River." The one that feeds the Darbandikhan Dam and the Lower Zab that feeds the Dukan Dam, and these are positive indicators.”
The advisor spoke about “one of the strategic projects discussed by the Council of Ministers at its last meeting, represented by the transfer of water from Bid’ah to Basra by pipes and the transformation of this open channel into a pipe channel so that sufficient quantities of water reach Basra,” noting that “the open channel faces a problem in the area Rumaila is currently passing through an area with a high amount of gypsum.”
He explained, "There is an agreement about work on the last part of the second station in the Artawi area to the basins in Rumaila, and if it is done, it will provide good water for the Al-Abadi station, a huge project that will cost up to 3 billion dollars."
