, the Prime Minister's Advisor for Elections Affairs, Hussein Al-Hendawi, issued a clarification on Monday about the fact that the teaching staff are obligated to work in the polling stations.
Al-Hindawi told the official news agency, "The government is in the process of providing travel visas and preparing other conditions for international observers from the United Nations and the European Union," noting that "the total number of observers has reached 500 people."
Regarding the assignment of teaching staff to work at polling stations and the fact that they are obligated to do so, he clarified that "there is a priority for teachers and the education sector to participate in the elections and to assume responsibilities inside the polling stations for those who wish to do so, and some do not want that, and this is a matter that concerns them in the main without any coercion."
With regard to what the Electoral Commission announced that there is a reward for every citizen who receives his electoral card, Al-Hindawi explained, "Dialogue with the Election Commission and the Communications Commission is continuing regarding determining appropriate and satisfactory rewards for those who receive their electoral card," noting that "the mechanism for granting rewards is being studied and may be through several Measures such as mobile phones, and they will be resolved within the next two days."
