Shafaq News/ The Ministry of Trade in the Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed, on Monday, that the typical "Al-Alwa" place for vegetables, which was opened in Sulaymaniyah Governorate, is not suitable for health and environmental reasons.
The ministry said in an official letter addressed to the Investment Authority in the region, seen by Shafak News Agency, that the "Al-Alwa" was established on land belonging to the Ministry of Commerce, and the implementing agency had to inform the ministry and take its approval.
She pointed out that "Al-Alwa" is located in front of the Tasluja cement factory, and this place is not suitable for such a project.
The ministry added that for the aforementioned reasons, the Ministry of Commerce cannot grant approval to set up the project on its land.
Earlier today, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, Qubad Talabani, inaugurated the largest model "alwa" for the sale and marketing of local and imported fruits and vegetables in the Sulaymaniyah Governorate, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, the Chairman of the Investment Authority of the Kurdistan Regional Government, the Governor of Sulaymaniyah, and a large number of investors and businessmen.
The Minister of Agriculture, Baker Talabani, said in a speech during the opening, that "this allowance is one of the most important and largest exemplary stations for marketing and storing local and imported vegetables, especially since its location is typical and strategic and close to the agricultural areas that are the food basket of Sulaymaniyah Governorate."
It indicated that it "is located between two agricultural areas, the first in Bazian, which includes 16,000 greenhouses, and the Beer Makron area, which includes 2,000 greenhouses, while the total greenhouses in the region are 28 thousand."
She pointed out that "this economic place will be a station for shopping vegetables for the regions of Baghdad and the central and southern provinces."
