The Ministry of Electricity confirmed, on Friday, that the memorandum of understanding it signed today with the German company Siemens will add 6,000 megawatts to the national system.
Ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Abadi said, "The importance of the memorandum signed today lies in the fact that it was signed with the most important international companies in the field of energy and will add 6,000 megawatts to the national system."
He added, "Working on the memorandum will solve the problems of transportation and distribution in the system and will contribute to the establishment of transmission stations and transmission lines, and this is considered an important part of the priority framework that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia'a al-Sudani sets for the electricity file."
He continued, "The addition of 6,000 megawatts and the solution of transmission and distribution problems will address a large and strategic part of the problems of bottlenecks in the national grid. The memorandum of understanding also discussed the aspects of investing in associated and natural gas to provide national gas revenues, and all of this will be positively reflected and allow for an increase in processing hours after completion."
