    Today, Monday, the Iraqi Association for the Care of Poultry Producers set a date for achieving self-sufficiency in table eggs, while indicating that it is studying 4 files regarding subsidizing table egg products.
    The head of the association, Ali Al-Muzaffar, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the committee formed by the Council of Ministers regarding the care of poultry producers will discuss several axes, including calculating the capacities in this sector and its ability to achieve self-sufficiency and the possibility of stopping imports for eggs, chicken and meat.” .
    He explained, "The committee will discuss the issue of fuel with the Ministry of Oil, especially since the association obtains 10 percent of its needs for kerosene at the official price, and the other amount is purchased from the black market, and this is a great loss, in addition to the issue of exemption from customs duties, as it is according to Resolution 391 of the year 2018 It was decided to exempt the association from customs duties and set a new fee of 0.5 percent, but its implementation lasted for only 3 months, and after the unification of the outlets, the decision was completely cancelled.
    He added, "Among the matters raised by the committee is the issue of loans that were taken by banks and the demand to give a longer period for repayment and to stop interest," noting that "the poultry sector was subjected to pressures in light of the decisions issued by previous governments that negatively affected it.” 
    He pointed out, to "the problem of the border crossings with the uncontrolled region, as imported goods are entered without customs duties and reach the center and south, and there is no ability to compete with it, as it is coming by smuggling."
    Al-Muzaffar stressed that "all axes will be studied by the committee," noting that "there is a great renaissance in the sector through modern projects that were established from 2019 to 2022, which caused abundance and self-sufficiency in that period, but the decision to clear customs and open imports without Vacations cause a decline in production.
    And he continued, "35 percent of the projects have started production, and it is expected during the next 6 months to achieve self-sufficiency and a high abundance of table eggs," calling on "the Prime Minister to provide protection for this sector and re-implement Resolution 327 of 2019 banning imports.”
